In case you were wondering, it does not get lonely at the top.
It’s been setting the bar since 1948. And we guess Ford felt like celebrating its 14th generation as a best-seller by elevating the bar once again. The 2021 Ford F-150 comes with the kind of unexpected baggage you want. Forget the standard you set for torque, payload, towing, and capability, because this truck demolishes them all.
The new F-150’s new family is anchored by a full hybrid. The redesign collides key features from present and past to display a best-of-both-worlds wonder. Behold, an extensive use of aluminum body panels, new tech, and routinely, some impressive productivity upgrades.
With a new look, both inside and out, the 2021 pickup will offer six engines ranging from a 3.3-liter, naturally aspirated V6 all the way to the new F-150’s “pièce de résistance” which is the humble name autoblog gave the PowerBoost hybrid. They write: “Based on the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and a specially calibrated variant of the 10-speed automatic, this is going to be the range-topping powertrain for the 2021 model.”
Indeed, we’re putting all our eggs in one basket with this hybrid; expecting nothing less than class-leading power and torque. While exact figures have not been released, we can confidently say that the PowerBoost model will produce at least 420 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque; the former is the power output of the 6.2-liter V8 in the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra; the latter is the torque output of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel offered in the Ram 1500.
The truck reveal comes after Ford rescheduled the unveiling of its all-new Bronco debut happening on July 13th. And if that wasn’t enough, according Mark LaNeve, VP of U.S. Marketing, Ford plans to have a battery-electric truck within two years.
The F-150 models will be available in showrooms by the end of year. The trucks will be made in Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri.
